What is Breaking Copy?

With a bias toward things new and interesting, Breaking Copy covers marketing and advertising copywriting, as well as other word-related developments in current events and culture. Breaking Copy’s mission is to help all kinds of writers make sense of the evolving world of commercial language. Read the Breaking Copy welcome post.

Who are you and why are you doing this?

The blog is by Daryl Lang. I’m a full-time, in-house copywriter for a technology company in New York City. This blog has no affiliation with my company.

I’ve had writing jobs in several fields including an editor for a trade magazine, a reporter for a local newspaper, a research editor for a housewares company, and freelance gigs for some food and travel magazines. I previously edited a blog called History Eraser Button, which won some recognition for a post titled “Hallowed Ground,” which led to an appearance on BBC News.  I also appeared in photographer Gabriella Herman‘s Bloggers portrait series.

I’m writing this blog to become a better copywriter, to stay knowledgeable about Internet marketing, and for fun.

How can I contact you?

E-mail me at breakingcopy@breakingcopy.com.

What is your policy on comments?

Comments are welcome and will appear immediately, unless they contain more than 1 link or are more than 1,000 characters long, in which case I will screen them. I will delete destructive or hateful comments.

What platform are you on, and who built your template?

This blog runs on WordPress. I designed and constructed this template myself using the default WordPress theme as a starting point.

Anything else?

This blog runs ads from Google Adsense, which displays ads based on words used on the page and sites you’ve visited previously. If you spot an inappropriate ad, I’d like to know about it. Please contact me at breakingcopy@breakingcopy.com.

I participate in the Amazon.com Associates program. When I recommend a book or album or movie, I’ll sometimes include a link to where you can find that product on Amazon. I get a small cut if you decide to buy something after following a link.
